“LIVE ANIMATION” PROJECTION ART
“Shadow pop-up-try”? “Projectorvision”?
“Live animation” is a term coined out of necessity for Erin’s visual performance art, in which she fuses shadow puppetry and paper engineering, manipulating pop-ups for a live audience via an overhead projector.
“Coyote” (2026, Collaboration with jess uhler)
Jess asked Erin if she could make some art to accompany an essay reading. Erin doubled down and invented a new art-form, inspired by proto-cinema technology like the magic lantern and the praxinoscope. They have since performed “Coyote” at “Jess is Afraid” (UCB Annex) and “Extended Sizes” (UCB Franklin).
Some of the art from “Coyote,” projected onto Erin’s hallway wall and filmed by leaning her phone against the projector head
